Buyer’s Guide to Zero-Turn Mowers
Zero-turn mowers aren’t like your average push mower. These machines are incredibly fast, efficient, and powerful, and the perfect solution for large lawns with a lot of obstacles to navigate around. If you’re on the hunt for a new zero-turn lawn mower, check out our helpful tips below to ensure you’re choosing the right model for your property!
Deck Size
The larger your property is, the larger the deck on your zero-turn mower will need to be. Generally speaking, you’ll want a blade less than 42 inches for anything less than an acre of land, and 42-50 inches for properties between 2 to 3 acres in size. There are also decks above 50 inches that can be used for properties of 4 or more acres.
However, you’ll also need to consider obstacles or obstructions on your property that may require your mower’s deck size to be a bit smaller. If obstructions are close together, your mower may need to be a bit smaller in order to successfully mow and maneuver around them.
Horsepower
Zero-turn mowers are incredibly fast and efficient models and already come with some pretty powerful engines. However, if you’re interested in having your zero-turn mower do more than simply mow the grass, you’ll need to invest in a model with a higher-powered engine. Zero-turn mowers with higher horsepower will also be able to tackle tougher mowing jobs and taller grasses. However, these models will also cost significantly more than your average zero-turn lawn mower, and you’ll want to be careful not to overpay for power you don’t need.
